Ordinarily, summary installments are disliked by fans as a needless diversion, or at best viewed as essential in television during the period of episodic releases. The full Secret Lair superdrop for the soon-to-release Avatar: The Last Airbender edition was unveiled recently. It features five distinct sets, and although a set named "My Cabbages!" is an admittedly amusing nod to the series' best background character, the additional releases appear slightly lacking creativity, aside from one remarkable entry: "The Ember Island Players."

Why this installment remains memorable

Audiences of the show fondly remember this installment, which acted as a review of Aang and the group's adventure before the series' finale. Different from other recap episodes, or "clip shows," "The Ember Island Players" was not driven due to production constraints or production issues. The producers specifically aimed to offer viewers an opportunity to reflect on the show's narrative, however, they opted to execute it with flair.

During the installment, the heroes watches a theatrical performance depicting their journeys on a stage located on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The entire performance is wildly exaggerated, melodramatic, and completely amusing. It succeeds because it plays with the characters' perception about themselves, juxtaposing them with how the world (and particularly the Fire Nation) perceives them. It has the right amount of introspective humor, and it becomes possibly the top rendition of the series we have had.
